About this event

This 10-week course is a taster of the industry and will give you the underpinning knowledge which is essential as you start your career in floristry.  You will better understand the needs of the botanical materials you are using each week and you will become more confident using a range of design techniques and mediums as you develop your creative skills.

Designs produced during the course include: bouquets, hand-tied designs, basket arrangements, posy style designs, seasonal door wreaths or hanging designs, table centers, limited contemporary designs and planted designs.

The course is split between floristry theory and floristry design and areas of study include:

  • Care and conditioning – rules and myths
  • Botanical naming of fresh cut materials
  • Colour theory
  • Elements and principles of design
  • Floristry techniques and how to use them within designs
  • Inspiration, trends and working seasonally
  • Designing with plants and plant physiology
  • Biodegradable designs and how these can be developed
  • Different wrapping styles
