European Master Certification in Floral Design - PART 2
About this course
European Master Certification in Floral Design - PART 2
EMC INTERNATIONAL, BELGIUM × THE FLORISTRY SCHOOL, SHEFFIELD
Open only to graduates of the European Certification in Floral Design - Part 1, the Master course is where the work deepens.
Seven intensive in-person days taught by Tomas De Bruyne, one of the world's most recognised names in contemporary floral design, with Diana Toma as EMC Coach.
It is, in essence, the same experience that students travel to Bruges for every year for the EMC Advanced Course. This time, the EMC comes to you!
The week takes students through structure and construction, tension and emotion, Gestalt, techniques and mechanics - and includes a day in London at the National Gallery where students study key works of art and develop a botanical design piece in direct response to a chosen painting. It is one of the most memorable days in the programme, and one that makes particular sense here in the UK, where the collection lives.
The final day includes verbal justification of each student's work, tutor feedback, and - for those who pass - the awarding of EMC results at a presentation evening. Graduates receive the title of EMCdesigner and the right to use the EMC credentials alongside their name.
Primary Tutors:
Tomas De Bruyne
Tomas De Bruyne is a Belgian floral designer, educator and founder of EMC - European Master Certification. Over more than two decades he has worked across weddings, corporate events and large-scale installations worldwide, and has contributed to or co-authored more than 20 books on floral design. His work has been published in over 60 magazines internationally.
The industry has paid him two rare tributes: in 2013, a new variety of Gloriosa lily was officially named after him, and in April 2024, a new fringed tulip variety was christened Tomas De Bruyne - a Dutch tradition representing one of the highest honours in the floral design community. LinkedIn + 2
As an educator, Tomas teaches through a method he developed called the Infinite Creative Effect - a framework that trains designers to think independently, read their clients and develop their own signature style rather than follow trends. He has taught students on every continent.
He leads the EMC Master programme in Sheffield as lead instructor.
Diana Toma
Diana Toma is a floral designer, EMC Coach and COO of EMC International, based in Bruges, Belgium. Her story with EMC is one she shares with many of the students she now coaches - she came to the programme as a student, completed both the Fundamentals and the Core Certification, and gradually became part of the team, eventually taking on a shareholder and leadership role alongside Tomas De Bruyne.
Originally from Romania, Diana has built her practice freelancing worldwide on floral projects and brings to her work an instinct for people - understanding what a client needs, what a student is struggling with, and how to bridge the two. Her work has been published in international floral design books, catalogues and magazines, and she has been involved in the design and delivery of projects worldwide.
In Sheffield, she joins the programme as EMC Coach - the person in the room who has walked the same path the students are beginning and ensures the preparation for the second part is at the required level to fully take advantage of having Tomas as a teacher.
