European Certification in Floral Design - PART 1

EMC INTERNATIONAL, BELGIUM × THE FLORISTRY SCHOOL, SHEFFIELD

The Floristry School has partnered with EMC - European Master Certification - to bring a genuinely different kind of education to students who have completed their Level 4 or 5 qualifications and are ready to take the next step.

EMC does not teach recipes. Its curriculum is built around a framework for design thinking - one that sharpens your ability to read every brief, every client, every space, and respond with intention. You will gain opportunities to increase your market share of our wonderful industry!

Flowers are the medium. The decisions you make as a designer are the focus of this program. What EMC develops, above all else, is your most valuable professional tool: your design mind.

Developed in Belgium and delivered internationally for over a decade, the EMC curriculum has been thoughtfully adapted here in collaboration with Jo Biddle and The Floristry School, Sheffield - making this the first time EMC has brought its programme directly to the UK. Jo herself holds the EMCdesigner qualification, which means this is a genuine meeting of two respected institutions.

The course runs over one academic term, combining online theory sessions with practical classroom days at The Floristry School in Sheffield. Each week follows a clear rhythm: theory released on Sunday, practical submission the following Monday, recorded feedback session on Wednesday. Five core modules cover the language of flowers, line and proportion, nature and growth mindset, colour, and techniques and mechanics - all building towards one central question: what kind of designer do you want to be? The practical sessions will be facilitated by the team at The Floristry School.

Assessment is straightforward. Assignments are pass/fail. There is a written theory exam at the end of Part 1, with a minimum score of 80% required to progress. Failed assignments may be resubmitted once.

On successful completion, students receive a Certificate of Completion of the EMC Certification in Floral Design - Part 1 - awarded jointly by EMC and The Floristry School, Sheffield - and are invited to continue onto the European Master Certification in Floral Design - Part 2.

Primary Tutor:

Diana Toma

Diana Toma is a floral designer, EMC Coach and COO of EMC International, based in Bruges, Belgium. Her story with EMC is one she shares with many of the students she now coaches - she came to the programme as a student, completed both the Fundamentals and the Core Certification, and gradually became part of the team, eventually taking on a shareholder and leadership role alongside Tomas De Bruyne.

Originally from Romania, Diana has built her practice freelancing worldwide on floral projects and brings to her work an instinct for people - understanding what a client needs, what a student is struggling with, and how to bridge the two. Her work has been published in international floral design books, catalogues and magazines, and she has been involved in the design and delivery of projects worldwide.

She leads the EMC European Certification in Floral Design - Part 1 programme in Sheffield as lead instructor.
